Get with the video thing...

Olly Willans

It's time to embrace video on your site.

Video is playing a bigger and bigger part in the web experience and not just on YouTube level. [I love how Mencap have made a great job of featuring powerful video content on their new website.]

Over the next couple of years, we believe that video will become a key part of the content management and production workflow in many of our clients' websites. So, here's  a couple of examples of how we've been helping clients to leverage video at a 'deep content', not just a 'front page' level:

Asthma UK are now with the video thing and here's the proof. They filmed and produced this great little video report of the Royal Parks London Half Marathon* shortly after we gave them a one day, intensive 'Video for the web' training course. We spent a day over at their offices showing them how to storyboard, shoot, edit, and compress video for the web. They learned how to get the best from natural lighting, the basics of sound recording and what makes a nice video short.

And, we've been producing and creating video ourselves. Here's something we whipped up for WRAP to help promote a re-usable alternative to the glut of wrapping paper that gets used at Christmas time:

Furoshiki gift wrapping from RecycleNow on Vimeo.

This sort of quick, low budget film with it's topical, seasonal theme is perfect for  online - and as such is easy to promote. The seeding plan should result in it being featured prominently on all sorts of news, lifestyle, women's and environmental sites.

 * The Royal Parks are a former client of ours, we designed and built their site many years ago. And, while it's definitely dated, i think you'll agree that it's held up pretty well.
