Relationship
In June 2004, Torchbox launched the new website for The Landmark Trust. The Landmark Trust is a building preservation charity based in a scenic location in Berkshire, established to rescue historic and architecturally interesting buildings and their surroundings from neglect and, when restored, to give them new life by letting them for holidays.

We worked with the Landmark Trust to create a clear but striking website that is as much a pleasure to use as Landmark's acclaimed Handbook.

We are always glad to work with the Landmark Trust because of the important nature of the work that they do, and for being able to have access to such a wonderful library of thousands of images. Torchbox was selected for this project with the help of Jonathan Thompson from Viable Heritage, who worked as consultant on behalf of the Trust.

Mission
Our challenge was the rapid redesign and development of the Landmark Trust website. We converted the success of the existing Landmark Trust handbook - an essential coffee table feature as much as an invaluable brochure – into an image and content rich website of equal importance.

Key to the project was introducing design consistency for the Landmark Trust across their delivery platforms.

Solution
We were fortunate to have access to this vast catalogue of beautiful buildings, and made use of these graphics to draw users around the site. In many ways, the beauty of the buildings is a focal point for site visitors, and we focused on a clean white background that allowed the images to speak for themselves.

The new site is Macromedia Contribute managed, an appropriate solution for clients without the necessary content and resources for a database-driven content management system such as RationalMedia. We also implemented an online handbook ordering system that interacts with WorldPay.

Although the site currently functions as a preview of the written brochure, we proposed that the redesign included a set of featured buildings to whet visitor’s appetites for ordering the handbook.
