IDCS website launch
13 May 2004
On 15 April 2004, the new International Deaf Children's Society (IDCS) site was officially launched. Designed by Torchbox and powered by RationalMedia 2.0, the new site provides a major global resource for deaf children and young people, their parents and professionals.
IDCS was launched in 2002 by the National Deaf Children's Society with the aim of improving the life chances of deaf children everywhere. It currently has an in-country programme in India and works in partnership with local charities in Ghana, Kazakhstan, Namibia, Guyana, Mongolia and Croatia via its Small Grants Programme.
The new website is intended as a way for everyone working with deaf children, including teachers, to exchange information and ideas, and for deaf children to communicate with others like them all over the world.
As well as providing a focal point of communication and interaction for schools and professionals internationally, the site also offers compelling 'Real Lives' stories; first-hand accounts of the lives of deaf children around the world.
In conjunction with the creative and technical development of the website, Torchbox also built the IDCS Directory and accompanying management information system, helping IDCS achieve a centralised global database of deaf organisations.
