David Cranwell
Having moved from Norwich, where I studied Computer Science at UEA, I joined Torchbox in September 2001.
Originally part of a 3-man multimedia software company, FXHome, I discovered my niche in web development and looked further afield for employment in my new found interest.
My recent area of work is on RationalMedia's discussion system, which is now used on the websites for the Multple Sclerosis Society, and the National Deaf Children's Society. The discussion system allows users to chat freely between themselves, find out information about eachother's circumstances, and gain invaluable advice from the professionals that often frequent the forums.
I also created BERT - the Bug and Error Reporting Tool, which is used by both ourselves and our clients as a method of systematically recording, eliminating and archiving any errors that occur. A user can enter detailed information about the problems they encounter, then watch the report status and information change as coders solve it - a personal approach to what is often a very impersonal and uninformative process.
More recent still, is my work on this website itself, which I ensured complied with strict XHTML guidelines as layed down by the World Wide Web Consortium. Notably, it also uses complex style sheets - rather than tabling - to achieve graphical structure; tabling often being misused in this respect.
My areas of expertise are ColdFusion, PHP, Graphic design, Flash and UI Design.
