Dr Helen Warren
After gaining a first class degree in Physics and a D.Phil in Astrophysics from St. John's College, Oxford, Helen worked for four years as a postdoctural research cosmologist at Oxford University, studying the large-scale structure of the Universe. Before joining Torchbox she authored/co-authored more than 14 papers in international journals and tutored undergraduate physics and astronomy at Sussex and Oxford Universities.
Helen has led projects for the Battersea Dog's home, Business in the Community and the International Deaf Children's society among others, and has been involved with these projects as consultant, project manager and lead programmer, carrying them from conception to launch.
Helen's main interests are primarily technical. She specialises in systems architecture, technical development, code optimization and database design and has a wide range of programming technologies under her belt including ColdFusion, Java, PHP and SQL. Recently Helen has been working on the integration of the powerful Lucene Java search API into Torchbox's main product - RationalMedia - in addition to her R&D work on our forthcoming search product.
Helen is instrumental in implementing and monitoring Torchbox's rigorous quality control processes, testing procedures and coding standards and currently leads the RationalMedia documentation working group.
Coming from a science research background, Helen likes to spend as much time as possible developing new Torchbox offerings and learning new technologies and languages.
Helen continues to have a more than a passing interest in the nature of dark matter in the Universe, but spends much more of her time these days worrying about how well code is documented.
