Johan Gant

Senior Drupal Developer

Originally a .NET C# developer, Johan decided he got more enjoyment and freedom from Open Source projects than worrying about boring stuff like SQL Server licenses or application logic layers.

Johan joined Torchbox in 2011 after a number of years working in the grips of academia at the University of Oxford and the danger-zone of private equity funded graduate recruitment/careers publishing at GTI Media consolidating up to 20 websites into a single Drupal platform. He's a firm believer in giving users as much control of their site as they can reasonably manage and while he's most at home working with APIs and custom code, he's also happy working alongside our designers to implement the latest challenging design brief.

Occasionally found at local user groups or events talking about moving data or sharing it between disparate systems in a meaningful way, Johan is always interested in ways to reduce the less interesting or repetitive parts of projects. As part of Team Drupal at Torchbox, he'll also be found contributing code patches, issues and support on drupal.org and interesting technical snippets/topics on Team Drupal's tumblr.

Outside of work, he's a qualified PADI diver who is always looking for new adventures both above and beneath the waves. His favourite dive would either be at Koh Tao (where he met Nemo's cage fighting cousin!) or The Great Barrier Reef where he found a friendly sea turtle and a giant school of curious bumphead parrot fish. He's considering braving the cold waters of the UK, but not until the Summer!
