Matthew Westcott
Matthew joined Torchbox after graduating in Computation from Oriel College, Oxford, bringing a sound academic knowledge of software design principles backed by years of programming experience.
With wide-ranging expertise in ColdFusion, PHP, Java, Perl and Javascript coding, and additional skills in database and XML technologies, Matthew is a firm believer in researching and applying the most suitable tools for a given task, and he maintains a keen interest in new advances in the industry. He recently developed a Perl-based extension to the RationalMedia system which is able to scan a two thousand-page site for broken links in a matter of seconds.
As primary developer on Business In The Community's website, he provided the RationalMedia-based site with innovative dynamic features, including the 'fuzzy classification' technology which allows the site to offer relevant links in response to subject matter and user preferences.
Matthew also has a strong appreciation of user interface design, and drew on this when working on the Local Heritage Initiative's online management system to provide a simple, intuitive interface.
In his spare time Matthew is actively involved in the digital art scene, having presented a series of computer-animated works at various festivals across Europe. At Torchbox he continues to apply these technical and design skills towards creating effective websites and applications.
