We’re committed to being an inclusive employer, from recruitment through to everyday life.

Led by our Diversity and Inclusion voice group we are on a mission to challenge biases, put inclusion at the heart of our processes and decision-making, and promote a culture where everyone at Torchbox feels supported in meeting their full potential.

We're learning, educating, and making changes that don't just make things better for our employees, but also our clients and the tech sector as a whole.

Making it happen

Some of the recent projects the Diversity and Inclusion group has been involved with include:

  • Improving our policies and processes, such as:
    • Supporting people returning to work after a break.
    • Using language that is easy to read and understand.
  • Running workshops and training on:
    • Supporting neurodivergent people at work.
    • Non-binary inclusivity.
    • Overcoming imposter syndrome.
  • Creating a survey to collect data on staff demographics and experiences of discrimination at work.
  • Working with the Wellbeing group to create rooms in our offices for breastfeeding, prayer, meditation, or just chilling.
  • Challenging non-inclusive language and missing salary listings in job adverts.
  • Helping make our social events like bike rides and parties as inclusive as possible.

Looking ahead, we'll be:

  • Creating a policy and running training to support people going through menopause.
  • Discrimination first aid training.
  • Updating our benefits package for maternity, adoption, and paternity leave.
  • Working with the Civic Engagement group to run a school workshop, introducing year 11s to what it's like to work in a digital agency.
  • Helping to make joining the Torchbox Academy a welcoming and inclusive experience.

We’ve also launched the Torchbox Academy as an inclusive way to recruit new members to the team. A 12-month paid placement as a Junior Developer or Digital Marketing Executive, leading to a full-time role on the team. It’s perfect for anyone looking to kick-start their career, segue into a new area, or return to work.

If you have any questions about our approach to diversity and inclusivity, give me a shout.
